Recommended Materials for a Better DIY Labubu

When you build a Labubu-inspired doll, the right stuffing, armature and connectors make the finished plush easier to shape and assemble. The guide below translates the material recommendations shown in the original project image.

• Stuffing: Use pearl cotton stuffing, also described as clustered polyester stuffing, for a fuller and more even shape. The loose PP cotton shown in the image is not recommended for this particular finish.
• Head-to-body joint: Use the smaller locking joint marked “Good” in the guide. Avoid the large smooth snap shown with a red X.
• Poseable armature: Use 2.5 mm coated aluminum wire. The beaded joint armature shown in the inset is not recommended for this construction.
• Eyes: Choose eye stickers or double-layer eye pieces, depending on the look you want.
• Ears: Prepare the sewn ear pieces before attaching the head.
• Hands and feet: Choose large-hole hands and feet so the wire or connector can pass through more easily. Avoid the small-hole version shown with a red X.
• Finishing accessories: A cable tie can help secure the internal assembly, and a hanging ring is optional if you want to turn the finished doll into a bag charm.

These parts are not included with the digital sewing pattern. Check their size against your chosen pattern before ordering.

How to Build a Labubu Body: Step-by-Step

This detailed body tutorial shows how to build a Labubu body and how to DIY a Labubu-inspired doll with reinforced limbs, cable-tie connectors, a soft wire armature and an evenly stuffed body. Complete the head separately, then connect it after the body is closed.

Step 1: Arrange and join the body pieces

Lay out the body, arm and leg pieces in the numbered order shown. Sew a small piece of interfacing or reinforcement fabric to each hand and foot opening. Join the body pieces along the photographed seams, keeping the hand and foot openings accessible for the connectors.

Step 2: Thread the cable ties before closing the feet

After the arms and legs are connected to the torso, thread the cable ties through the reinforced hand and foot openings before you sew the feet closed. Do this first because the channels are much harder to reach after the limb seams are finished. Sew the feet as shown while leaving the cable-tie ends accessible.

Step 3: Fold and sew the arms, waist and thighs

Once the cable ties are threaded through the hands, fold each arm with the fabric sides aligned and sew the arm seams. Then follow the seam direction shown in the photos to join the waist and upper-thigh sections.

Step 4: Shape the round belly and bring the legs together

After sewing the waist and thighs, the legs may still spread slightly apart. For a rounder belly and closer-set legs, pinch and stitch the small area indicated near the thumb in the photo. Start at the crotch and continue sewing upward for about 1 cm.

Step 5: Attach the hands and feet, then turn the body

Place both feet inside the leg openings from the wrong side, tighten the cable ties and trim the excess. Position the hands carefully before fastening them so the left and right hands do not become reversed. Insert the hands in the same inside-out position, tighten their cable ties, trim the excess and turn the entire body right side out.

Step 6: Add the armature, stuffing and body connector

Shape a simple inner armature from coated iron wire or coated aluminum wire and place it inside the body. Bend or cover every wire end so it cannot push through the fabric. Add the stuffing gradually, followed by the head-to-body connector. Close the remaining body opening with a ladder stitch. Attach the completed head to finish your Labubu-inspired doll.

Small-parts note: Cable ties, plastic connectors and wire are not suitable for a toy intended for a young child. Check every fastener before finishing the doll.

✂️ Sewing Steps

1. Punch holes for attaching the face.
2. Cut out all the pieces according to the labubu-sewing-pattern (including the inner ears): front face, left back head, right back head, two cheeks, body, left outer ear, right outer ear, left inner ear, and right inner ear.
3. Align the pointed corners of the ears and back head, sew them together, and stitch all the marked areas.
4. Sew the top-of-head piece.
5. Attach the back-of-head and ear base.
6.  Stitch the two head pieces together.
7. Sew both arms onto the body.

8. Sew both legs.
9. Connect the arms and legs to the body.
10. Stuff the hands and feet, then close their openings.
11. Add the optional wire if using it.
12. Attach the body and head.
13. Fill the remaining body with polyfill.
14. Close the back opening to finish your handmade doll.
